UROPAC Co-Hosts Reception for Rep. Ruiz
On November 16, UROPAC co-hosted a reception for congressional champion Rep. Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) at the American Medical Association's Interim Meeting in San Diego. UROPAC members Richard Pelman, M.D. and Martin Dineen, M.D. attended the reception on behalf of UROPAC.
Congressman Ruiz authored a key amendment to surprise billing legislation earlier this year, which provided a balanced process for physicians to resolve disputes with insurance companies through a baseball-style arbitration process modeled after the successful New York law. He has also authored legislation to extend the Teaching Health Center GME program and to repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), which would have authorized cuts in Medicare payments for healthcare providers.
