According to federal election law, a political action committee may contribute up to $5,000 per candidate per election.  This includes special, run-off, primary, and general elections.  For example, a candidate running in a primary and general can receive up to $10,000 from UROPAC ($5,000 for the primary election and $5,000 for the general election), as long as the contributions come before the election for which they have been designated.  

The UROPAC Board will create a slate of candidates on an annual basis which UROPAC will designate 70% of its resources per two year election cycle.  UROPAC will reserve 30% of its resources to be allocated on an ongoing basis with approval of the Chair and Vice-Chair.  In implementing the slate, the Board will convene quarterly conference calls to approve distributions and will strive to allocate PAC resources as follows:

• $5,000-10,000 to targeted members of the Congressional Leadership

• $5,000 to targeted Full Committee Members of four key jurisdictional committees

        - House Energy & Commerce and Ways & Means Committees

        - Senate Finance and HELP Committees

• $5,000-10,000 to targeted Health Subcommittee Members of four key jurisdictional committees

• Up to $10,000 for targeted friendly Members off of four key jurisdictional committees

• Up to $10,000 for targeted friendly physician members off of four key jurisdictional committees

The PAC will encourage:

• Urologists to attend local political events or deliver checks in the member’s districts, so that not all checks are presented in Washington, DC.

• When contributing to national committees of political parties, effort should be made for urologists and staff to attend eligible events that become available as a result of these contributions.

• Urologists to serve on campaign or issue committees of Members of Congress.

• In any year the allocation of the contributions between the two major parties will be reasonable and balanced.  

• Support of incumbent Members of Congress whenever possible; supporting a challenger can only be done with the full vote of the Board of Directors.

• Support of candidates in open seats (after the conclusion of the primary election) on a case-by-case basis.

•  Support of elected Members’ campaign debt retirement on a case-by-case basis.  ​
